Praying for the Lost

Earlier this week in Evening Prayer as I was praying I read the Old Testament Reading for that day from Jeremiah 25. In vs. 4 the prophet Jeremiah wrote, Jeremiah 25:4 And the Lord hath sent unto you all his servants the prophets, rising early and sending them; but ye have not hearkened, nor inclined your ear to hear. How little has things changed. People as a whole ignore the Word of God. In the USA it has been preached and preached and people ignore the Word seeking doctrines that tickle their ears.

The 1689 London Baptist Confession reminds us, Man, by his fall into a state of sin, has completely lost all ability of will to perform any of the spiritual good which accompanies salvation. As a natural man, he is altogether averse to spiritual good, and dead in sin. He is not able by his own strength to convert himself, or to prepare himself for conversion. When God converts a sinner, and translates him into a state of grace, He frees him from his natural bondage to sin, and by grace alone He enables him freely to will and to do that which is spiritually good. But because of his remaining corruptions he does not only (or perfectly) will that which is good, but also wills that which is evil. We need to

• Pray for God to convert the lost around us.

• Pray that God will give us opportunities to witness to those who are unconverted.

• Pray that God will open their hearts and give them the new birth.

PRAYER: Lord Jesus Christ, you stretched out your arms of love on the hard wood of the cross that everyone might come within the reach of your saving embrace: So clothe us in your Spirit that we, reaching forth our hands in love, may bring those who do not know you to the knowledge and love of you; for the honor of your Name. Defeat of the Antichrist

This Morning prayed using the Agpeya Prayer book as a guide. One of the Psalms in morning prayer that I pray was Psalm 2. David sings about how the nations rage against God and His Messiah but it is in vain that they oppose the Lord. One of the meditations this morning came from the 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith which declares of our Lord Jesus, "And the Father also put all power and judgment in His hand, and gave Him commandment to exercise the same." (1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith chapter 8 article 3)

The New Testament Lesson from 2 Thessalonians 2 speaks of a future Antichrist,

2 Thes. 2:3-8 (NIV)
Don't let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the man doomed to destruction. [4] He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God's temple, proclaiming himself to be God. [5] Don't you remember that when I was with you I used to tell you these things? [6] And now you know what is holding him back, so that he may be revealed at the proper time. [7] For the secret power of lawlessness is already at work; but the one who now holds it back will continue to do so till he is taken out of the way. [8] And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will overthrow with the breath of his mouth and destroy by the splendor of his coming.

The Bible is clear while he will deceive many and blaspheme the Name of Jesus, he will be destroyed at the Second Coming of Christ. What I learned is this that while many Bible prophecy teachers and movies focus heavily on the Antichrist (Years ago some thought Mussolini and Hitler pictured above could be the Antichrist) the Bible focuses on Jesus Christ. I am not a fan of the Left Behind series, Omega Code series or any other Christian horror movies that focus more on Antichrist than Jesus Christ. We are not told to be looking for Antichrist (How many of you have received an Obama is Antichrist email) but have our eyes on the Lord Jesus Christ who is sovereign over all. The fascination with end times theology by many popular preachers resembles more of a Stephen King novel or movie than the Book of Revelation where Christ is shown as sovereign and victorious.

May our prayer and focus be that of the Apostle John's words in Revelation 22 " Even so, come Lord Jesus."
